Our Story
Sweet Home Smoker Co. began not as a business plan, but as
an idea born inside our father’s company, Radiator Supply House / Icebox Performance.
Several years ago, competition barbecue teams approached our dad and his team with a unique request: redesign the traditional drum smoker.
With decades of fabrication and manufacturing experience, the shop took on the
challenge and ultimately built nearly 100 custom drum smokers. Not a single one
was ever sold; instead, every smoker was donated.
Those smokers found homes through charity auctions and
community programs, including the Boys & Girls Club, St. Jude, local
schools, logging conferences, and many other nonprofit events. While the demand
and interest were clearly there, the decision was made to keep Radiator Supply
House focused on what it does best building radiators. That decision opened the
door for us.
As the Garrett boys, we were given the opportunity to take
what we had learned and build something of our own. Sweet Home Smoker Co. was
created to continue the craft of building drum smokers this time as a
family-run startup dedicated entirely to barbecue.
Chet, the oldest brother at 20, officially handles the
business side of the company, including paperwork, social media, and customer
and vendor relationships. Zane (17) and Reid (15) spent their summers working
at the radiator manufacturing facility, learning the trade hands-on. Today,
they are the fabricators and welders behind every Sweet Home drum smoker.
Drum smoking itself is rapidly becoming a favorite among
competition barbecue teams and backyard pitmasters alike. The design
allows fats, juices, and spices to drip directly onto the coals, where they
vaporize and circulate back into the food. The result is exceptionally moist,
flavorful meats and vegetables that are hard to replicate with any other style
of smoker.
Once you smoke on a drum, you’ll never go back.
Sweet Home Smoker Co. is built on craftsmanship, family, and
giving back, carrying forward a legacy of American manufacturing while creating
something entirely our own.
